If you’ve found your ideal trusted house sitter using the search facility on our website, the first step is to send an inquiry to the sitter inviting them to consider the opportunity you have listed and requesting that they begin a conversation with you if they feel they are suitable for the role.
Your listing will be attached to any messages you send from your TrustedHousesitters inbox and those sitters will be notified via an email alert to let them know they have a message waiting. Be aware that not all sitters are actively seeking house sits year round so it is advisable to send inquires to a number of sitters.
If you have received an inquiry from your ideal trusted house sitter after publishing a listing on our website, the sitter has already considered their ability to provide the level of property and pet care you’re looking for and so you can begin a conversation to ascertain whether you feel they are suitable for the role.
Regardless of how the connection was made, once both parties are in agreement that a match has been made the next step is to verify any references and reviews provided by the sitter.
You will also notice a trust badge on your chosen sitter’s profile. Our new industry-leading trust and safety features are designed to help sitters demonstrate at a glance, that they are a trusted house and pet sitter. A sitter will display their level of verification on their profile, and will be verified to a basic, standard or enhanced level.
We suggest that when you enter into a conversation with your ideal house sitter you ask specific questions that relate to their ability to take on the responsibilities you will be handing over, and contact any references provided. If distance makes meeting a potential house sitter harder, easy-to-use technology such as Skype, can help. Most computers have a webcam, so you can talk to, see and ‘meet’ your potential house sitter giving you much more confidence in ensuring their suitability.
We also provide an agreement form that you can use to agree the terms of the sit. This is not a legal document, but can be used as the basis for one and can ensure complete transparency from the outset. Our Homeowner Manual and Pet Profile are additional resources that can help you fully communicate your expectations and the level of responsibility your sitter will take on.
Also ensure that you have logged your dates and confirm your sitter via your Dashboard as this will help to keep a record of who is sitting for you, enable you to share your Welcome Manual and Pet Profile with your sitter and provide them with a review after the sit, which we know sitters really appreciate.
