Most house sitters are happy to cover their own living costs whilst sitting for an owner because they recognise the mutually beneficial nature of providing free property and pet care in exchange for a free retreat.
Some owners may choose to provide their sitters with a subsidy to cover basic living costs whilst they step into their shoes, care for their beloved pets, and take on the day-to-day running of their home.
There is no right or wrong way to approach providing support to your sitter in exchange for the care they provide, this is a decision that each owner must take themselves.
We would suggest that a homeowner could consider offering financial support in situations that fall outside of standard expectations. For example if the cost of living at the owner’s home vastly exceeds that of the average home or if the sitter is required to take on responsibilities over and above those of basic property maintenance and pet care.
Throughout the entire house sitting process we encourage our members to retain the values of our community pledge and communicate with each other to find a solution that is of benefit to both parties.
