Once you've sent an application for a potential sit, it's time for you and the pet parent to get to know one another and decide if this is the right sit for you. We've made a list of things to consider and potential questions to ask below.
How to consider a sit:
- Read the listing carefully and ask yourself whether you are ready for all the responsibilities detailed.
- Feel free to ask the pet parent anything you need to know to decide whether it’s the right sit for you.
- Arrange a video call with the pet parent so you can both get to know one another and ask any questions that may be on your mind. It also means you can get to know their pet and potentially see where you’ll be staying.
During these introductory conversations, it’s important to ask for all the information you’ll need for a successful sit. Perhaps you want to ask:
- What is your pet’s personality like?
- Does your pet have any special care needs or require medication?
- Is your pet happy to be left alone for a few hours or are they used to constant companionship?
- What is the local area like?
- Are there public transport links or will the sitter need a car?
- What are your local attractions and how far are amenities from your home?
If you are applying to a long-term sit, you may also need to discuss and agree on financial commitments, such as utility bills.
Trusted Tip: Never feel rushed to confirm a sit right away. Both members must feel comfortable and confident, so take your time.
