Uploading photos is usually quick and easy; most images straight from your phone or camera will work first time, no adjustments needed. But every now and then a photo gets rejected, and it can be hard to know why. If that happens to you, don't worry it's almost always one of three simple things, and each one has an easy fix.
It's too small
Photos need to be at least 800 pixels on the shortest side. If yours is too small, it's likely not the original; screenshots or photos saved from WhatsApp or Facebook are often shrunk down.
Trusted tip: Upload the original from your phone or camera, or ask whoever sent it to share the original.
It's an unusual shape
Wide, square, portrait, and tall photos are all fine. Long, thin strips (like panoramas) aren't.
Trusted tip: Crop it to a more standard shape.
It's the wrong file type
Photos are usually saved automatically in a format your phone or camera creates; you don't normally need to think about it. The formats we accept are:
- .jpg or .jpeg (the most common photo format)
- .png
- .heic (the format many iPhones use by default)
If your photo came straight from your phone, it's almost certainly already one of these.
Trusted tip: If it's not, most phones let you change the format when you share or export the photo or you can try saving/sharing it again, which often converts it automatically.
Trusted tip: For the best results, aim for photos at least 800 pixels on the shortest side and under 10MB each, with up to 20 photos in your photo tour.
